Accredited Tourism Award winner Fern Gulley Retreat is located on one of the state’s most picturesque and pristine scenic tourism drives (route 251) following the Blackwood River as it meanders it’s way from Balingup to Nannup surrounded by rolling hills, C.A.L.M. and natural forest – yet within easy reach of most coastal and tall karri forests tourist destinations.
The Blackwood River runs just in front of the cottages and is visible from all four cottage front decks. During the wet season the heavy rains cause the water levels to periodically breaks its banks and overflow onto the floodplain below the cottages, filling the billabongs which makes for a stunning visual display.
During the summer months, when the water in the river is lower, visitors can take the opportunity to bring their own canoes to paddle down the river or likewise try their hand at fishing although suggest going to the nearby Donnelly River and private lakes..There are wonderful walks and walking trails along its banks with benches interspersed to take in the view or to sit and have a picnic lunch.
Fern Gulley has a number of resident farm animals who wander around the grounds acting like lawnmowers and giving guests immeasurable pleasure. They love to be fed and most of them will take straight from your hand. There are Pigeons, Peacocks, Geese and a huge variety of wild and native birdlife that you are encouraged to feed with the supplied birdfeeders. It goes without saying we actively discourage any pets onsite to maintain the wildlife rapport….

With a twin bridge entering the resort, towering date palms and a drawbridge over the feature fishpond with a large number of inhabitant fish, these gardens look like a tropical oasis amongst the native gums of Australia with stunning effect.
